Poetry Out Loud

Poetry Out Loud is a national competition in which students select and memorize a poem. They then perform the poem for an audience.

Tips for Memorization
Write it down. Try to break the poem down and write each line without looking.
Put chunks of lines on notecards and use them like you would study vocab (Keep them in order) :)
Record yourself reciting the poem. Listen to it as often as possible.
Find an audio recording online
Memorize one line, then add a second. Now recite lines 1 and 2. Add a line each time and build upon your previous memorization.
Work with a partner - Have him/her help you
Use time you already have during the day (bus ride, homeroom, etc.). Challenge yourself with mini-goals (memorize two lines before the bus gets to school)
